There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where casino gaming is against the law. Eight gambling halls are based in a relatively small area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect spot, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few controls constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; although, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 17:00, and despite the fact visas are for all intents and purposes required to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is real of many borders.

The 1st Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship gambling hall, contains one hundred and fifty slots and 60 table games. The Naga gambling den is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machine games and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around vacation and hotel complex that features many comforts on top of the gambling den, which provides ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 tables.
